Think about the various ways that each critical load could fail, leading to a disruption. There may be a range of failure scenarios (i.e., different combinations of failure frequencies and disruption durations) associated with different critical loads. Failure scenarios may be created only for critical loads defined as equipment, assets, or systems. Failure scenarios should focus on failures inherent to characteristics of the equipment, asset, or system rather than failures resulting from externally initiated, discrete events (e.g., earthquakes, high winds). These externally initiated events may also cause energy/water outages, so including them in failure scenarios may lead to overestimating risk.
For each failure scenario, enter the estimated failure frequency and answer all remaining questions to receive an estimated disruption duration. Select at least one critical load to which the failure scenario applies. More than one may be selected if multiple critical loads share the same failure frequency and disruption duration characteristics.
